Hofstede

Response is a sporadic journal exploring contemporary Antipodean graphic design. An initiative of Dominic Hofstede and Paul Marcus Fuog with support from AGDA Victoria, the publication was created to provide an alternative voice in a local publishing scene dominated by commercial magazines. The premise is simple: a carefully compiled list of respondents is presented with a simple prompt, and their replies, both textual and visual, form the journal’s content.

The launch issue is centred on the theme of ‘What’s Next?’ and features content from creatives including Garry Emery, John Warwicker, Fabio Ongarato Design, Spike Hibberd and New Zealand’s Alt Group. A collaborative project in the truest sense, the publication’s design evolved through a series of emailed conversations conducted between Melbourne and New York. The outcome is a versatile platform for the disparate range of responses.
